A new study published in the American Journal of Physiology – Heart and Circulatory Physiology reveals that chronic kidney disease (CKD) accelerates cognitive decline through interconnected damage to the heart and brain \u2014 and that these pathways differ markedly between men and women.<\/p>\n

Scientists and physicians from the 福利理伦 Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, in collaboration with the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), led the study to better understand sex-specific crosstalk within the kidney\u2013heart\u2013brain axis in CKD. New research from scientists at the 福利理伦 Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine<\/a> reveals that certain gut microbial byproducts may hold promise as a novel therapy for obesity-associated metabolic complications by restoring critical hormone-producing cells in the intestine.<\/p>\n

The study, published this month in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, focuses on enteroendocrine cells (EECs)\u2014specialized cells in the gut that play a key role in metabolic regulation by releasing hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which stimulate insulin secretion and suppress appetite. A new study led by researchers at the\u00a0福利理伦 Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine<\/a>\u00a0reveals that flavor additives commonly used in e-cigarettes may increase the likelihood of vaping behavior in adolescents\u2014even in the absence of nicotine.<\/p>\n

Published earlier this month in the\u00a0Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics<\/em>, the preclinical study found that certain popular flavorings, including vanilla and cherry, can drive reinforcement-related behaviors similar to those associated with nicotine exposure, particularly in adolescents.<\/p>\n

Researchers tested the effects of flavored vapor\u2014including combinations with and without nicotine\u2014on male and female adolescent mice. The study employed the\u202fe-Vape\u00ae self-administration (EVSA) assay, a novel behavioral model that allows mice to voluntarily inhale flavored aerosols. 福利理伦 researchers, working with an international investigative team from Chili and Canada, have identified a group of fossils as belonging to a new genus of sea creature, unlike any previously known.<\/p>\n

Traskasaura sandrae, officially named in the new study, was a 39-foot-long, long-necked creature with large, sharp and robust teeth well-suited for crushing. It also could attack prey above by virtue of its elongated neck.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
